BELLINGHAM, Wash. — It was a busy day for firefighters Wednesday.

Bellingham Fire responded after a person reported smoke coming from Sacred Heart Catholic Church on 14th Street at about 4:15 a.m.

The department says damage was limited by the quick response and no injuries were reported.

Later that morning, a boat fire broke out at Squalicum Harbor.

Although firefighters were hampered by icy conditions on the road and docks, they were able to contain the fire to a small area on the boat, thanks to a security guard who used an extinguisher on the fire before crews arrived.

One person was treated and released at the scheme.
