BELLINHAM, Wash. – Homelessness and housing issues dominated the Bellingham City Council’s Monday meeting.
Nancy Amol told councilmembers she’s homeless.
“I always pay my rent on time. I don’t drink, smoke, party or do drugs. I don’t have a criminal record. The reason is because property management company decided they were going to remodeling all the units so I was given 20 days notice to get out.”
Some of the dozens of people who camped out in tents outside Bellingham City Hall to draw attention to the plight of the homeless also spoke.
The council spent time talking about the barriers and concerns renters face and hearing about the criteria that will be used to find a spot for a new homeless shelter.
