BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Late fees for overdue books will no longer be an issue come January.

The Bellingham Public Library and Whatcom County Library System are doing away with fines for overdue materials to improve access to our local libraries.

Starting January 2nd, people will no longer be charged for bringing library items back late and all existing fines will be cleared.

The chair of WCLS Board of Trustees Marvin Waschke says they understand that fines can deter people of limited means from going to the library and they want to welcome people back.
