BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The company that wants to run the Lake Padden Golf Course won’t have to comply with Bellingham’s Living Wage Law if it gets the contract.
Former Bellingham Parks Director Paul Leuthold urged the city council to allow Premier Golf to manage the course without paying wages required under the law.
Companies that contract with the city are forced to pay workers more than $13 an hour with health benefits or $15 without.
The city parks department says the exemption is needed because private golf courses in the area don’t have to pay all of their workers that much.
The council voted to waive the Living Wage Law for the course.
