BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A Bellingham man with eight outstanding warrants was taken into custody after violently attacking a police car over the weekend.

Bellingham Police Lt. Claudia Murphy said that two officers were patrolling an area on Lincoln St early Saturday, September 17th.

They noticed a male hunched over by the I-5 overpass near Frazier St, and as they drove past him, he threw a 25-pound wooden railroad tie directly at their windshield.

Covered in shards of glass and driving with a shattered windshield, the officers turned around and called for backup.

The suspect, 25-year-old Jacob Johnston, was arrested shortly after other officers arrived.

He told officers that he didn’t target their car on purpose, but had planned to strike any vehicle driving through the area.

Johnston had 8 active arrest warrants against him, including theft, assault, and malicious mischief charges.

He remains in custody at the Whatcom County Jail without bail.

Neither of the patrol officers were seriously injured in the attack.
