BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A Bellingham man faces a slew of charges following a wild chase on I-5 over the weekend.
Whatcom County Sheriff’s Deputies tried to pull over a car that was driving southbound near the Meridian exit early Sunday morning, April 24th.
The car was seen weaving between lanes, had no license plates, and had a motorcycle in the back that was not properly secured.
Deputies said the car initially appeared to stop, but then rammed the responding patrol car onto an on-ramp and sped off.
At one point, deputies said that the car drove the wrong way on I-5 in an effort to escape law enforcement.
Two PIT maneuvers and some pepper spray later, the suspect, 44-year-old Clayton Williams, surrendered and was taken into custody.
Investigators later discovered the motorcycle in the back of the vehicle was marked as stolen.
A search inside the car found half-smoked fentanyl and other drug paraphernalia.
Williams faces over a dozen charges and at the time of his arrest was out on bail for a different stolen vehicle charge.
