SURREY, B.C. – A Bellingham man was arrested after trying to cross the Canadian border with several loaded guns.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police said in a statement that John Wright crossed the border through Surrey Peace Arch State Park on March 31st.

He hopped in a car that was being driven by a Canadian woman, but was quickly taken into custody.

Federal Policing Border Integrity officers later found three loaded handguns and a stun gun while searching the car.

Wright faces firearms possession and smuggling charges.

Spokesperson Cpl. Arash Sayed said that the Canadian woman, who was not identified, was arrested and released without charge.
