BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A Bellingham man faces charges of reckless endangerment while a baby in his care is hospitalized after ingesting methamphetamine.

Police Lieutenant Claudia Murphy says the 13-month-old girl was airlifted to Seattle Children’s Hospital after her mother found her unresponsive on June 14th.

Tests revealed methamphetamine in the baby’s system.

The girl and a toddler have been in the care of 32-year-old Matthew E. Huffstodt.

He denied using meth but an oral swab found evidence of that and other controlled substances.

Investigators exercising a search warrant also found methamphetamine residue well above dangerous levels in Huffstodt’s home on 12th Street they arrested him on Sunday, June 27.

The long term prognosis for the health of the baby girl is unknown at this time.
