BELLINGHAM, WASH – Bellingham Police were sent to the wrong address Monday night and then returned the very next night.

Police spokesperson Danette Beckley says the officers were worried about a possible threat in the apartment Monday.

After a few tense moments, the officers realized they were in the wrong place.

“We can make mistakes and it’s OK to make mistakes but you own them and you do what you need to do to make them right, ” Beckley says.

A young boy was in the apartment at the time.

The officers returned to the same apartment Tuesday night and brought the boy some stuffed animals, stickers and trading cards.

Beckley says the officers’ actions send an important message.

“This is who we really are, so you can always come to us,” Beckley says.

Beckley says the boy’s mother told them her son wasn’t fazed by the incident, but she appreciated the officers coming back.

Lt. Beckley spoke with Peter and Tracy on Your Afternoon Show, you can listen to that full conversation here.
