BELLINGHAM, Wash. — State and private grants aim to improve computer technology in local schools.

The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction announced Monday nearly $1 million in grants were going to improve computer science and related educational state programs.

The Bellingham School District will receive $27,000 in grant money.

The state grant funds will be matched equally by private sources, which effectively double the total amount to $2 million.

The grants allow districts, schools, and nonprofits to provide and upgrade computer technology, and to train teachers.
