BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Several hundred high school students walked out of class to protest at Bellingham City Hall Friday morning.

The rally was part of a worldwide series of youth-oriented events demanding government action on climate change.

The Bellingham Herald reports students demanded leaders act decisively to reverse the effects of greenhouse gases that scientists say are causing environmental damage.

Dana Smith with Bellingham Public Schools Dana Smith says classes continued on a normal schedule and parents must excuse any absences.
