BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, organizations throughout the state are urging Washingtonians to recreate responsibly.

As the 3-day weekend and summer weather approaches, Bellingham Whatcom County Tourism has joined more than 50 organizations statewide in a Recreate Responsibly Coalition, providing practical advice for Washingtonians who want to enjoy outdoor recreation while limiting the spread of the coronavirus.

The coalition developed tips for outdoor recreation based on recommendations from the CDC, public health officials, and recreation experts.

To recreate responsibly, they urge you to check the status of the place you want to visit in advance to be sure it’s open, prepare for facilities to be closed, stay close to home, practice physical distancing, choose low-risk activities to reduce your risk of injury, and be sure to take all your garbage with you.

The coalition hopes that with these efforts, we can keep ourselves healthy and keep our public lands open.
