BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A 28-year-old Bellingham woman has been convicted for her role in an attempted railroad attack.
Ellen Reiche was one of two people caught on video trespassing and placing a wire “shunt” on BNSF railroad tracks in November.
The shunt would have disrupted train signals near Cliffside Dr in Bellingham, meaning trains would not be aware of other trains or cars passing through the area.
Her co-defendant, 24-year-old Samantha Frances Brooks, pleaded guilty in July.
Reiche chose to be tried in front of a jury that found her guilty on Thursday, September 9.
Both face up to 20 years in prison when they’re sentenced in the fall.
