SKAGIT COUNTY, Wash. – The North Cascades Highway is still closed to traffic but it could be an adventure for bicycle riders this weekend.

WSDOT reports crews clearing Highway 20 from the east and the west met in the middle this week but still have more clearing to do before the road opens for the season.

Workers are off over the weekend and the department says it’s a chance for bike riders to ride over the pass without having to worry about other traffic.

There’s still slush and some snow on the roadway and riders should be aware of other possible dangers like avalanche.

Work will resume on Monday and bikes will no longer be allowed.
