SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. — A Sedro-Woolley-based organization and two schools in Skagit County received big grants from the state in an effort to get kids outdoors.

The North Cascades Institute won big with a $120,000 grant to help underserved youth participate in their Youth Leadership Adventures program which involves backcountry courses in the North Cascades.

The Salish Sea School in Skagit County was awarded $25,000 to help high school youth participate in its marine conservation program called Guardians of the Sea.

Burlington-Edison Schools also received a grant to send fifth-graders in the district to Mountain School at the North Cascades Institute, which helps develop a sense of place in the Skagit Valley.

These grants were part of the fourth grant cycle of the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office’s No Child Left Inside program.

“This is about investing in our kids and making sure they have equal access to the outdoors,” says Governor Jay Inslee.
