OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The state Senate has approved a repeal of the death penalty, just months after the state Supreme Court unanimously struck down capital punishment as arbitrary and racially biased.
The measure would replace the death penalty with a sentence of life in prison without possibility of parole.
The bill now goes to the House, and Governor Jay Inslee has said he will sign it.
