OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Tens of thousands of people who were previously found guilty of misdemeanor marijuana possession charges could see their convictions vacated under a measure passed Monday by the Washington State Senate.

Sen. Joe Nguyen (D) who sponsored the measure says the convictions were “part of a failed war on drugs that disproportionately impacted communities of color and low-income folks.”

The vote comes two months after Governor Inslee announced his plan to pardon people convicted of possession charges.

Locally, Sen. Lovelett (D, 40th District) voted in favor of the bill, while Sen. Ericksen (R, 42nd District) voted against.
