OLYMPIA, Wash (AP) – State lawmakers now agree to eliminate the need to pass a biology test to graduate from high school.

Students in the class of 2017 and beyond will be able to automatically earn a diploma without passing the test.

Other seniors who fail standardized tests in English and math also could get a diploma under the new agreement, but those students would have to file an appeal.

The measure is expected to come up for a vote in the Legislature soon.
