BLAINE, Wash. – Birch Bay and Blaine are getting new Tsunami sirens next week.
At the same time, The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office is training people for Community Emergency Response Teams.
Emergency Management spokesman John Gargett says the Birch Bay siren is being installed at the new park right in the middle of the bay, and area refinery operator Phillips 66 is paying for it.
The Blaine siren will be at the Water Treatment Plant.
Federal and State agencies are funding that one.
The Community Emergency Response Team training starts on Friday.
It enables ordinary citizens to act as first responders in the event of a disaster.
The weekly class runs until June.
