BIRCH BAY, Wash. – With blue-green algae threatening to cancel the Polar Bear Dip at Lake Padden, the Polar Bear Plunge in Birch Bay is still an option for hypothermia seekers.
Birch Bay will ring in the New Year with the Ring of Fire and Hope the night of December 31st and the Polar Bear Plunge January 1st.
For the Ring of Fire and Hope, bring spike-less flares to the Birch Bay shoreline and be ready to light them at 7 pm creating a ring of light from Birch Point to Point Whitehorn.
The more daring revelers can join hundreds of people from all over the world in taking the freezing plunge into the bay at noon.
