BIRCH BAY, Wash. – Birch Bay residents are concerned about what 4th of July Fireworks cancellations elsewhere in Whatcom County will mean for their community in light of COVID-19.
If the County is in Phase III by then, gatherings of up to 50 people are allowed; right now, the number is at 5.
One factor that could impact the number of revelers this year is the border; non-essential visits by Canadians are prohibited at least through July 21st.
Doralee Booth of the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce commented to the Northern Light “this is not our event. It never has been. It just happens to us”.
The Sheriff’s Office says they will have visible patrols at Birch Bay for the 4th again this year.
Tons of trash are collected by volunteers and hauled away from Birch Bay the day after the celebration each year.
