BLAINE, Wash. — Blaine City Council has joined Bellingham in passing a resolution opposing $30 car tab Initiative 976 Monday after holding a public hearing.
Mayor Bonnie Onyon told The Northern Light that the city’s resolution was in Blaine’s best interest because she thinks it will have a pretty major impact on projects in Blaine and other communities.
City manager Michael Jones and several councilmen addressed the loss of revenue that could potentially affect the Bell Road overpass project which would alleviate traffic delays caused by trains.
Councilman Eric Davidson was the lone opponent of city’s resolution, saying he didn’t think it was the council’s place to try to tell Blaine residents how to vote.
