BLAINE, Wash. — Blaine could be the next stop for Amtrak Cascades service.
There are currently no stops on the route between Bellingham and Vancouver B.C., and a recent meeting put on by All Aboard Washington focused on adding one in Blaine.
State Representative Luanne Van Werven attended the meeting and says a Blaine stop could be beneficial to people in north Whatcom County and many just across the border.
She says renovating Blaine’s historic rail station would be expensive, but a simple platform is all that would be needed initially.
State and federal government agencies would have to cooperate with the Canadian government to add a Blaine Amtrak stop.
