BLAINE, Wash. — A Customs and Border Protection Officer who’s also running for Blaine City Council goes to court on a charge of obstructing a police officer today (Tuesday).

Steven Tojek is accused of obstructing Blaine Police as they impounded his car following a traffic stop in 2017.

According to The Northern Light, Tojek was a passenger in the car as it was being driven over 100 miles per hour by an intoxicated driver.

Police say Tojek was warned that he’d be charged with obstruction if he didn’t leave the scene, but he got back into the car instead.

Tojek denies the charges, saying he didn’t know there was an investigation as he was told the driver had been arrested.

He says that the police dashcam video will support his claim that his actions were not inappropriate.
