BLAINE, Wash. — The Blaine City Council has approved extension of an emergency order allowing restaurants and retail businesses to use the G and H Street Plazas.
The council voted to extend a resolution that expired October 1st.
The resolution allows businesses to apply for a park special-use permit to set up dining or retail space in the plazas until the county reaches Phase 3 or the state’s Safe Start plan.
The Northern Light reports that while the ordinance was aimed at providing relief to local businesses hit by COVID-19, only the Drayton Harbor Oyster Company has used it.
City manager Michael Jones requested that council direct the city to come up with a fee schedule for use of the space in line with the costs restaurants pay to use sidewalk space.
