BLAINE, Wash. — Not everyone in Whatcom County is complying with the mask mandate.
Officers from the Blaine Police Department responded to a call about troublesome customers at a local business at about 3:00 p.m. last Saturday.
The manager advised officers that two individuals were not wearing masks, were making inappropriate comments to other people, claiming to have COVID-19 and coughing throughout the store.
The individuals threatened to assault the store manager while he was escorting them out of the business.
Sgt. Michael Munden said the suspects in this case were two adult males.
He said 61 year old George Bennett Jr told an officer that he had been wearing a mask and his son had a shirt over his face.
Bennett claims he had coughed behind his mask and joked with an employee that was a friend of his about having COVID-19.
The officer notified Bennett that the store wished to trespass him, which Bennett stated he understood and would not return to the store.
