BLAINE, Wash. – The final resting spot for dozens of Lummi Nation ancestors now belongs to the tribe.

The City of Blaine gave about two acres on Semiahmoo Spit to the tribe.

Crews working on the expansion of the city’s sewage treatment plant dug up Native American remains there in 1999.

Lummi Chairman Timothy Ballew tells The Bellingham Herald this is the best attempt to make things right for their ancestors.

The tribe plans to put the land into a trust.
