BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A blue-green algae problem in Lake Padden might impact this year’s annual polar dip there.
Bellingham Parks and Recreation says in a news release that samples taken from the lake Wednesday tested extremely low for the microsystin toxin associated with the algae.
However, they say the last few days of sunshine could lead to an uptick of the toxin, so they are monitoring levels of it to determine whether or not the dip can go on as planned.
A final decision will be announced December 31st.
The City says the Resolution Run around Lake Padden will not be impacted.
