SEATTLE, WASH. – Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenberg is among the leaders of several major corporations backing House Speaker Paul Ryan’s tax overhaul.

That’s in spite of one provision in the bill, a 20 percent border tax on all imports from other countries.

Aviation analyst Richard Aboulafia  says he’s baffled by Muilenberg’s support of the measure because a lot of Boeing parts are made overseas.

“The only hope I suppose, is that the people who provide consumer goods to the U.S. … are going to be heavily against this and that just might save Boeing from its worst impulses,” Aboulafia says.

Aboulafia also worries that a border tax would spark a trade war with Mexico, China and the European Union.

He says that would be a boon to Boeing’s rival Airbus.
