BORDER, Wash. — Wednesday is Valentine’s Day when roses are the hot item, but if you’re crossing the border with them, you might want to check with Customs and Border Protection.
Roses, carnations and most flowers are allowed into the U-S, but they have to pass an inspection for insects, pests or diseases.
Some cut greenery used to fill out a bouquet may carry some of these, which will get the whole bouquet confiscated.
Agriculture specialists will inspect cut flowers and plants to ensure they’re free from pests or diseases that could harm local agriculture and floral industries.
