BLAINE, Wash. – Whatcom County’s border crossings will be seeing some major changes in the near future.

The U.S. General Services Administration has announced that $3.4 billion in border crossing projects has been granted through President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

Over $20 million of that funding will go to the Pacific Highway Port of Entry in Blaine to add more inspection lanes.

An unspecified amount of money will also go towards improving operations at the Lynden and Sumas border crossings.

Customs and Border Protection says that the two smaller border crossings need to be upgraded to process an increase in commercial traffic.

No start date has been announced for any of these projects.
