BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Maintenance work is planned for an oil pipeline in Skagit County.

The Olympic Pipeline runs north to south through Washington and into Oregon, carrying petroleum products supplied by refineries in Whatcom and Skagit Counties as far as Portland.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports BP is proposing to replace two segments of the pipeline in Skagit County, one near where it crosses the Swinomish Channel and the other near Bow where it crosses Colony Creek.

BP says the segments need inspection and possible repairs but replacing them altogether would be less environmentally harmful.
