BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Bellingham Police have arrested a man accused of firing off gunshots near Boulevard Park earlier this week.
Lt. Claudia Murphy said in a statement that the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Ryan Marita-Davis, fired several rounds from a rifle Tuesday afternoon, February 8th.
Several officers tried to get Marita-Davis to drop the weapon, but he refused to comply and ran off.
He dropped a backpack as officers set up a perimeter to deescalate the situation.
Officers were finally able to take him into custody after firing non-lethal bean bags near the suspect.
Investigators later recovered 117 rounds of ammunition from the backpack, along with the .22-caliber rifle.
According to Whatcom County Jail records, Marita-Davis was released from jail Wednesday morning.
