BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Bellingham Police are investigating after a city sewer pump was looted over the weekend.

Police Lieutenant Claudia Murphy said that the suspect cut the locks on a gate and a control panel in the 3600 block of James Street around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 12th.

Security footage showed the suspect attempting to steal copper wires and an electrical transfer switch before leaving the area with a six-foot ladder.

Post Point employees were alerted to the system malfunction half an hour later.

Service was not impacted by the burglary.

While the pump itself was not impacted, the city estimates that the suspect caused about $10,000 in damages.
