BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Bellingham is among a dozen cities across the state that will be receiving funds from the U.S. Department of Justice.
The police department will receive nearly $39,000 to train officers in implicit bias and community policing as part of the federal Byrne Grant Program.
Other cities, including Seattle and Tacoma, are getting 6 figure grants from the same program to help reduce violence and enhance intervention programs.
Washington State also received over $3.6 million, which will be distributed to anti-gang and drug violence organizations.
Newly appointed US Attorney Nicholas Brown congratulated the grantees, adding that those cities have successfully identified ways to make their communities safer.
