WHIDBEY ISLAND, Wash. — A photo showing a streak of orange light and a mysterious object spotted early Sunday morning over Whidbey Island had speculation running wild and the tinfoil hat community likely won’t be satisfied with the explanation.
Q13 reports Greg Johnson of Skunk Bay Weather found the photo taken at 3:56 A.M. by his high-quality camera, and many agreed it looked like a missile launched from NAS Whidbey Island.
But, a spokesperson with the facility says they don’t have those capabilities, so Johnson contacted Airlift Northwest ambulance service, and got the answer to the mystery.
A chopper with a searchlight pointing straight down was leaving Bremerton and heading to Bellingham on a standard instrument flight plan, but the light didn’t switch off, leaving that vertical streak of orange light in the sky.
Johnson told Q13, “I am 99% convinced this is the real situation. I will always leave that 1% open out there because I love a good mystery.”
