BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham Technical College has reduced staff to respond to a coronavirus-induced budget shortfall.
The Bellingham Herald reports that summer enrollment at BTC is down 30%, and the school was facing a deficit before the pandemic hit.
BTC’s Marni Saling Mayer told the paper many of its hands-on programs cannot be moved online.
The school has laid off five full time employees and left more than thirty other full time positions unfilled.
Governor Inslee has directed every state agency, including technical colleges like BTC, to prepare a 15% budget cut scenario.
