BELLINGHAM, Wash. –
An update on the Bellingham Technical College story we brought you previously.
KGMI reported on two BTC faculty groups calling for the resignation of president Kimberly Perry, over issues related to a contract negotiation breakdown last fall, and an HR department that, in their words, is hostile to them.
Now, the BTC board of Trustees has responded.
Board of Trustees chair Debbie Ahl said in a statement the Trustees support what Dr. Perry is doing to navigate what she called “long-standing issues” that were in play before the arrival of Perry.
She said BTC is in binding arbitration related to compensation for faculty who did not hold classes last fall during a strike.
Ahl credited President Perry for taking steps to improve the campus climate through the creation of participatory governance groups.
The Bellingham Education Association is suing the school for what they call “unfairly withheld wages”.
