SEATTLE, WASH. – State officials will still be allowed to travel to Seattle after a budget amendment is shot down by House Democrats.

Republican Vincent Buys of Lynden floated the idea of banning lawmakers from traveling to SeattleĀ until the West Point Wastewater Treatment Plant is returned to full capacity.

He says it was way to point out the state’s double-standard on environmental policy.

“We need to have some kind of a standard so the people of the state aren’t going to be held to a higher standard than the state itself,” Buys says.

The West Point plant suffered mechanical failure earlier this year, and spilled millions of gallons of raw sewage and storm water into Puget Sound.
