KENDALL, Wash. — Unhealthy air is prompting the Northwest Clean Air Agency to impose a burn ban for the Columbia Valley area in Whatcom County.
The agency says people burning wood for heat have created unhealthy conditions and they are banning all burning in fireplaces and uncertified wood stoves in the Kendall area, except those that qualify for an exemption.
All outdoor burning is banned as well.
The ban is in effect until Wednesday at noon, but may be upgraded if conditions get worse.
Wind and rain in the forecast the next few days could help conditions.
We are issuing a Stage 1 air quality burn ban for the Columbia Valley urban growth area in Whatcom County.
