NEW YORK (AP) — You shouldn’t see major changes to the Bellingham Herald as its parent company goes through bankruptcy proceedings.

McClatchy filed for protection Thursday.

The publisher says its 30 newspapers, including the Herald, will continue to operate as usual as it goes through Chapter 11 reorganization.

It expects 2019 revenue to be down more than 12% from the previous year which would be its sixth straight annual slide.

McClatchy says it hopes to take the company private as it shifts to more digital operations and sheds debt and pension obligations.

The company that began in 1857 during California’s gold rush also owns The News Tribune in Tacoma, The Tri-City Herald in Kennewick and the Olympian in the state capitol.
