BLAINE, Wash. — Thanks to online shopping and companies like Amazon, border towns like Blaine, Sumas and Lynden are hotspots for Canadian shoppers setting up proxy addresses.

Northwest News Network says border towns are establishing more mailbox stores that mostly cater to online shoppers from B.C. and have much larger post offices than their local population would support due to Canadian renters.

Blaine has 15 private mailbox stores, Sumas has 5 and Lynden has 4.

Clunky shipping regulations and lack of product availability means an American address is often required.
