ANACORTES, Wash. — A waiver for a huge new fishing vessel built in Anacortes has made its way through Congress.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports Dakota Creek Industries in Anacortes mistakenly used too much foreign-fabricated steel in the $75 million ship, named America’s Finest.

That left it out of compliance with the 1920 Jones Act and would not have allowed it to fish in U.S. waters.

Congressman Rick Larsen applauded the vote, saying he worked with Senator Maria Cantwell and lawmakers from Alaska to get the waiver through both houses.

It now goes to the president’s desk for his signature.
