DIABLO, Wash. — A one-acre wildfire, the first of the season, sparked in the North Cascades Wednesday and the Forest Service is reminding people to play it safe this Fourth of July.

Fireworks are banned at national forests and also aren’t allowed on public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management.

Park rangers say lightning started Wednesday’s wildfire, but as summer kicks into gear, campfires are also a risk.

In 2018, roughly 84% of wildfires, or about 1,500, were caused by humans.
