WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – The CDC is updating its COVID-19 guidance for Whatcom County residents.
According to their COVID-19 dashboard, the CDC has upgraded the county’s community transmission level from “low” to “medium.”
They’re suggesting people who may be at higher risk of contracting the virus to wear a mask in public.
Over the past week, cases have seen an 87% increase, but health officials aren’t sounding the alarm just yet.
In comparison to the Omicron spike earlier this year, case numbers still remain relatively low.
However, the CDC believes that many of the cases reported in Whatcom County are of the Omicron variant.
Last week, Skagit County was also upgraded to a “medium” transmission level, but they’ve since been downgraded back to “low” transmission.
