SEATTLE, Wash. — While a nationwide CenturyLink outage affecting 911 service also hit here in Washington, Whatcom County is unaffected.

KIRO’s Gary Horcher at the King County Emergency Communications Center says millions of people in the Pacific Northwest and beyond have been dealing with this outage since early Thursday morning.

“We’re talking at least 2 million people here in King County alone,” he says.

As of 3:30 Friday morning, CenturyLink tweeted that it was still working to restore service.

This follows multiple tweets throughout Thursday saying they would have everything back online in a couple hours.

In 2016, the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission fined the company nearly $3 million for failing to reroute emergency calls during a 6 hour service outage in 2014.
