BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A child who was reported missing was found dead at Bellingham’s Whatcom Falls Park Friday.
Deputy Police Chief Don Almer says the child was not swimming or jumping off anything but was apparently splashing in shallow water before they were reported missing.
Police and EMS personnel responded and the child was found in an area near the fish hatchery where a rock wall creates a small waterfall and a pool.
It was unclear how they got into deeper water.
The child was transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center but was pronounced dead.
Almer says the child is under 16 but isn’t releasing any other information out of respect for the family.
