SALEM, Ore. — Christmas tree farms may be unexpected beneficiaries of the pandemic.

The Capital Press reports a survey commissioned by the Christmas Tree Promotion Board found 39% of respondents said they were more likely to buy a natural tree this year, compared to the 21% who are less likely.

A board spokesperson said the phenomenon is not all that unusual in the wake of a disaster like COVID-19, as consumers in the past have turned toward experiences that make them feel happy, like buying and decorating natural Christmas trees.

Whatcom County Christmas Tree farms span Bellingham, Ferndale, Deming, Everson, and Kendall.
