BELLINGHAM, Wash. — It is looking more likely some real winter weather is on the way.
The weather service in Seattle says modest north winds through Friday morning will bring in a system with as much as 6 inches of snow between Friday afternoon through Saturday.
Forecasters say travel could be tough Saturday morning as the snow continues and some power outages will be possible due to downed trees.
Bellingham street crews are on duty during the cold weather.
The City says crews will travel through the City’s six snow routes on three shifts per day laying down de-icer.
Crews will use beet juice on roads to prevent ice from forming when the weather is cold enough.
When snow and ice are already on the streets, crews will use salt in the downtown corridor and around Lake Whatcom instead of sand to keep dirt out of the City’s catch basins and Lake Whatcom, meaning some secondary and some residential streets will likely be untreated and slippery.
