BELLINGHAM, Wash. – There will soon be a new waterfront experience for Bellingham residents to enjoy.
The Lehigh Northwest Cement Company has donated part of a former industrial pier at Little Squalicum Park to the city.
That portion of the pier is 1,200 feet long and 14 feet wide.
Mayor Seth Fleetwood says the donation will provide an great new waterfront experience for residents at the north end of Bellingham Bay.
The city plans to build an overwater walkway there similar to the Taylor Dock south of Boulevard Park.
Improvements should cost $4.5 million and are expected to begin in 2023 or 2024.
